Time Charter Party

Hire

Under an ordinary time charter, the payment which the Charterer has to pay to the Owner is called “hire”. It is always paid in advance, e.g. per day, every two weeks, per month or per ton/month. The hire will be considerably lower than the freight under a voyage charter, because the Owner only has to pay for the fixed costs and not for the variable costs.
