Each charter party starts with an introduction in which the contracting parties and the most important elements of the agreement are presented.
The modern GENCON charter party in box layout has, as already mentioned, two parts, viz. part I, the box part that contains all the details of the ship and the voyage and part II, the text part with the printed clauses, which contain the terms and conditions, which were agreed between the parties.
The elements which are to be taken into consideration in clause 1 of the GENCON charter party (box layout) are:
- the name and the address of the contracting parties (box 3 and 4);
- the name and a short description of the ship (box 5, 6 and 7);
- the position of the ship (box 8);
- the date the ship is expected to load (box 9);
- the loading and charging ports or places (box 10 and 11);
- the cargo (box 12);
- the freight (box 13 and 14);
Other important particulars are:
- the name and the address of the Shipbroker (box 1);
- the date and the place where the charter party was concluded (box 2).
