| 14. Agency | 207 |

According to this agency clause, the Ship Owner may appoint the agent, both at the loading and at the discharging port. In practice this clause is almost always altered and the Charterer will appoint the agent, both at the charging and at the discharging port.
In the previous chapters, the problems concerning the agent have been exhaustively discussed. (See Paragraph Harbour Services, sub-paragraph Agencies, Brokers and Surveyors and Paragraph The Port Agent.)
We insist once again on the fact that, if the Charterer appoints the agent, the master will have to be particularly vigilant as the agent of the Charterer will always look after the interests of his principal.
