GENCON - Clause 6

Laytime



REVERSIBLE LAYDAYS

When in the charter party reversible laydays have been inserted, this means that the laytime counts jointly for the loading and the discharging of the ship (See GENCON charter party, clause 6, Laytime, Paragraph b) Total laytime for loading and discharging).

The time gained or lost at the loading can therefore be lost or made up at discharging. With such a provision, possible demurrage or despatch money (see further Demurrage) can only be settled after the ship is discharged.

Interruption of the laytime

In certain circumstances it is possible to have a suspension of laytime, if the charter party does not foresee anything about this. Here too, the uses and/or legislation of the place apply:
