CHARTER PARTIES

GENCON - Clause 6

Laytime

WEEK-END CLAUSE

Saturday afternoon is not considered as a holiday unless the charter party contains restrictive provisions. Following "Weekend Clauses" can be used:

".... time from noon on Saturday to 8 a.m. on Monday not to count".

Thanks to this clause, Saturday will count for half a working day and Monday for 2/3 of a working day.

".... time from Saturday or day preceding a holiday 1 p.m. until Monday or day after a holiday 8 a.m. not to count, unless used".

quot;Surfdays"

These are days on which, due to the swell in the roads, it is impossible to load or to discharge from lighters or barges These surfdays are therefore not regarded as laydays.

CONCLUSION

Above quoted and discussed clauses, provisions and expressions allow us to understand and interpret clause 6 of the GENCON charter party - Laytime - properly. Notice that the time is now given in running days/hours instead of running hours.
