The “Question and Answers” (Q&A) on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea must allow the navigator to test his knowledge on the Colregs.
Statistics have shown that the Colregs are often misunderstood or misinterpreted, leading to accidents and near-misses.
To compensate this lack of knowledge, the official law text of the Colregs need to be widely commented with lots of examples based on practice and experience.
To allow the navigator to acquire this necessary knowledge, I have written a book on the Colregs where every Rule is commented and illustrated.
The book is only available through Interned and can be ordered by clicking on “Books”. Just follow the instructions on the screen.
As it would take too much webs pace, the book itself is not published on the site but can only be obtained as a hard copy (as mentioned above).
Only the questions and answers (by referring to the book) are published on-line.
First, the Question is given followed by the Answer.
The Answers can be divided into two groups:
1. By referring to the number of the Rule and the Comment given in the book
Example:
2. By giving additional comment which does not appear in the book.
3. By referral to a PowerPoint presentation slide, or
4. By referral to a Flash animation.
To give you an idea of the content of the book, click on Table of Content. Click also on Preface which was written when the book was first published in 1981 and on Preface by the second edition which refers to its publication and updating in 2007.
Thank you for purchasing the book and for improving your knowledge on the COLREGS.
Critical remarks and suggestions which can improve the quality and the accuracy of the book and the Questions and Answers will be gratefully received by e-mailing to http://maritimeknowhow.com.
